CHAPTER 6

I leaned back and closed my eyes taking a deep breath.

“Remember the guy that got chucked over the bridge the other day?”

“How did I know that you couldn’t let that go?” Rhys glanced at me.

“You know me so well.” I shifted the box on my lap.

“What’s that?” He nodded towards it.

“I’m not entirely sure but I’m guessing a knife. I used it to stab Porter. I’m pretty sure he’s dead.”

“OK, Kate, from the beginning.”

I filled him in on what I knew. “So, I need to take this to Henry Sutton and see what he can tell me about it.”

“You think he’ll know?” Rhys pulled into my driveway and I saw Logan’s car as well as my Dads.

“What’s my Dad doing here?” I slid out of the truck and Rhys was right next to me.

“He was furious that Warren lost you. He’s the one who called me.” He took my elbow and we headed into my house.

“Katie, what the hell happened to you? You scared your Mother and me.” Pauly rushed up to me and tried to hide his shock at my appearance. Mom brushed past him and tried to hug me but Pauly pulled her back. “Why not let her get cleaned up first.”

“Actually, we are going to need the crime scene techs to process her for evidence.” Logan stepped up.

“Hey Kate, you doing ok?” He asked me. I noticed Pauly scowling at him.

“I can take care of this Steele, no need to call anyone else in, just let her shower and relax.” Pauly butt in.

“No can-do Sir. This has to be done by the book. We have a body out there somewhere.” Logan stood up to my Dad. I raised my eyebrows at the confrontation.

“Oh, it’s ok Dad, Logan I swear it was self-defense.” I looked at him.

“I know that Kate, and I’ll do everything I can to make that clear.” Logan pulled out his phone and typed in a text. “Kate, where’s the body?”

I looked at Logan then my Dad. Biting my bottom lip, I looked at Rhys. I gave him a “What do I do look?”

He nodded to Logan.

“Kate this could land you in jail you have no control over any of this if you let Steele handle this.” Pauly was not pleased with the idea of the legal route. I wanted Dad to take care of this but on the other hand, I knew Rhys and Logan would be supes disappointed if I went with Dad’s way. I heaved a heavy sigh. I scanned the room and my gaze landed on Mom. She wasn’t sure either.

“Kate?” Logan said gently.

Rhys was looking at me like ‘why is this even a question?’ I sighed and gave Mom and Dad a sad shake of my head.

“Katie, I hope you know what you’re doing.” Dad was clearly disappointed.

I kinda glared at Rhys and Logan not liking the way this was going down. Sure, I had killed a guy, but it was self-defense and he wasn’t a good person. I
